Manage projects

Create, switch, rename and move a project, transfer it to someone else, leave it, or delete it.

A project is one site's space in Capa. See Projects for what it holds. This page covers the tasks that change a project itself.

Create a project

  1. Open the project switcher at the left of the top bar, or go to app.capacms.com/projects.
  2. Choose Create project.
  3. Enter a Project name of at least two characters, and choose Create.

You become the project's owner, with the Admin role. Capa opens the new project on its billing settings.

Next, build your models and invite your team.

Switch projects

Open the project switcher. It shows your five most recent projects under Recent, then every project under All projects, from A to Z. Type in Find a project to search.

Projects at app.capacms.com/projects lists them all too.

Rename a project

  1. Go to Settings > Project.
  2. Change Name, up to 80 characters.
  3. Choose Save.

Admins and the owner can rename a project. The new name shows everywhere at once. The project's URL does not change.

Change the project URL

Each project has its own address, such as app.capacms.com/project/northpeak-outdoor. To change the northpeak-outdoor part:

  1. Go to Settings > Project.
  2. Under Project URL, type the new one: 3 to 48 lowercase letters and digits, with single hyphens between them.
  3. Choose Save URL.

If another project already has it, Capa says "That URL is taken".

The old address stops working at once, with no redirect. Bookmarks and links your team shared break. The old address is free for any other project to take.

Your site is not affected. Keys read the project they belong to, whatever its URL.

Transfer ownership

Only the owner can do this, to someone who is already a member.

  1. Go to Settings > Members.
  2. Open the new owner's menu and choose Transfer ownership.
  3. Confirm.

The new owner can now transfer ownership and delete the project. You stay in the project as an admin.

Leave a project

  1. Go to Settings > Members.
  2. Choose Leave tenant, and confirm.

You lose access at once. The owner cannot leave: transfer ownership first, or delete the project.

Delete a project

Only the owner can delete a project, and not while it is open.

  1. Open another project.
  2. Open the project switcher, hover the project to delete, and choose its trash icon.
  3. Confirm.
Deleting a project removes its models, entries, keys and members. There is no undo. Its media files stay reachable at their URLs, so delete any file that must go before you delete the project.
